A very slow week finance wise. But I can report some more reserved list spikes, caused by play in EDH. So, once again, just in time for FNM, I present you the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight.

You know for sure it's a slow week in Magic finance when Phelddagrif is the #1 weekly winner. But, do notice that Phelddagrif is on the reserved list and since the announcement of Eternal Masters traders tend to think that Wizards is really not going to reprint any cards on the reserved list, no matter how incredibly expenisve some of the cards on that list are.
Phelddagrif is not only a reserved list card, it looks a lot of fun: a purple, winged hippo legend (wait: no, not a hippo, a Phelddagrif). What were the designers using when they came up with this card? And on top of that the card sees play as a commander in EDH. Check out recent discussion on the card.
Finally! A card that spikes because of a top finish in a recent tournament. That used to be the reason of almost every spike. Orzhov Pontiff sees play (not as a playset however) in Abzan Company and Kiki Chord modern decks. And last week, Joseph Presnell piloted his deck to a #1 finish on the SCG Open Milwaukee.
Orzhov Pontiff was already gaining value since january 2016, and has spiked after this top finish. Most decks run 1 copy of the card, so that makes it easy to pick up. And its pre-spike price of $6.80 was probably underpriced to begin with. The card almost doubled in price since.
Lake of the Dead almost looks like concept art from the second season of Fear the Walking Dead. Outside of that, Lake of the Dead is on the reserved list. And like I have explained above, speculators are looking for anything on the reserved list that is even remotely playable. With Lake of the Dead you can ramp a black deck pretty hard, especially if you have a deck that plays Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth.
The big reason Lake of the Dead spiked this week is its use in the popular Gitrog EDH deck. Not every deck uses the card, but it seems like its an upward trend to include Lake of the Dead. Check out the cards associated with the Gitrog deck.
