Another very interesting week in the world of MTG finance! KTK is now really hitting the market and the first big spikes have happened. So, once again I present you the weekly winners, just in time for your FNM.

#1 Glittering Wish +501% ($15.75) ALL TIME HIGH

Glittering Wish

Glittering Wish made a huge spike this week. +501% is extreme! The reason simple: Jeskai Ascendancy.dec. This deck has won a tournament on september 28. Jeskai Ascendancy is the new thing in modern. At this time, there are different builds of Jeskai Ascendency decks. Check out another example, with a different wincondition.

Both builds use Jeskai's Ascendancy to cast a bunch of non-creature spells to trigger Ascendancy. You can untap your mana dork and draw cards in the process. And don't forget, your mana dork gets +1/+1 as well. By playing enough cantrips you can eventually pump your creature to epic proportions and use Glittering Wish to find some nice tech to kill your opponent. Or, also important, to protect your creature.

The coming weeks will prove (or disprove) the power of the Jeskai Ascendancy deck. Some have already claimed that WOTC made a huge mistake by printing the card. Some even call for an emergency ban. Some just sideboard against it. Time will tell who ends up on top!

And keep your eye on Legacy as well: there is some ('super secret' :p) testing going on with Jeskai Ascendancy!

#2 Mantis Rider +232% ($7.50)  ALL TIME HIGH

Mantis Rider

Jeskai again! But this time Jeskai Tempo. Mantis Rider is one of the three different creatures played in the new Jeskai Tempo deck; a deck that won an SCG Open last weekend.

The price increase on the card is big, and I think that it will not be able to retain its value in the long run. Yes,  Mantis Rider is a good creature but it's not that versatile in the perspective of a complete format. The URW mana cost is quite prohibitive, and it can only be played in decks that are able to consistently bring that combination of mana on the table in turn 3.

The lack of versatility will mean that the allround demand will be lower and that is a huge influence on the price.

On the other hand don't forget that Modern now has access to all fetchlands. So getting your shocks on the table with the right colors is less of a problem. But, to put things in perspective, there are no cards in competitive legacy that use 3 three different colors of mana.

#3 Stoke the Flames +224% ($4)

Stoke the Flames

Stoke the Flames is a classic buyout. Speculators have targeted this card and up it went! It's an interesting target because it's from a set that is fairly new and will stay in standard for quite some time. Red decks are popular in Standard and Stoke the Flames is strong in Red Deck Wins.

Also a word of caution: the standard metagame will re-set itself and Stoke the Flames might end up at the wrong side of the cut. The complete impact of KTK on standard is still unknown.

Loser of the week:  Surrak Dragonclaw -22%  ($7.39)

Surrak Dragonclaw

Surrak Dragonclaw was overhyped in the weeks leading to the KTK release. It's very normal to see cards drop in value after a set is released. And this one is the winner of the losers. It's a strong dude, with a bunch of sweet abilities. But there are no results of decks that successfully run it (outside limited maybe), and therefore the price will go down.

Cheap pickup of the week: Exploration  ($20.37)

Exploration

Exploration is an powerful card in the right type of deck. Legacy lands for instance. After the reprint in conspiracy this card went down hard and is now rock-bottom at $20 a piece. The conspiracy copy is even cheaper, you can pickup a playset of those for $30.

Just like last week, the Commander: Innistrad: Midnight Hunt spoilers are the main factor of influence on the markets this week. There are enough cards spoiled for the brewing to commence and we expect a lot more movement in the coming weeks!

The most interesting week in a long, long time! Maybe I'm a but biased due to my love for Legacy, but this week that format is the biggest driving factor behind the three weekly winners.
