Spoilers for Streets Of New Capenna are now really taking off and we see a lot of price fluctuations because of it. Some new combos and new interactions that will make sure people start brewing new decks. And we also have a price spike because of a leaked card from Commander: Streets of New Capenna. An exciting week with lots of movement!

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight!

Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Reddit.

#1 Scarblade Elite $15.99 (+1311%)

Scarblade Elite

This rare from Morningtide just spiked since today and is all because a new Commander: Streets of New Capenna "lord" was printed for Mercenaries, Assassins, and Rogues. Mari, the Killing Quill was just revealed and this immediately led to a buyout of this rather strong Elf Assassin.

Besides this there is not a lot to report at this time. Keep in mind that this is the initial spike of people scooping up the card quickly, so don't expect this price to stick. A lot of people are also talking about the synergy with Etrata, the Silencer, since Mari is giving you additional ways to get creatures with hit counters exiled. I do expect this card to move up as well in the short term.

Scarblade Elite
Etrata, the Silencer

#2 Hellcarver Demon $16.08 (+1311%)

Hellcarver Demon

Wow, that's quite the spike. Going up with over 1300% we see Hellcarver Demon moving towards a quite higher price tag. This Demon used to be about $1.20 on average and has shot up. Hellcarver Demon has quite some text and also quite the ability. When it deals combat damage to a player, you have to sacrifice all other permanents you control and discard your hand. Then you exile the top six cards of your library and may cast any number of nonland cards exiled this way without paying their mana costs. So you'll end up with no permanents (other than the demon), no cards in your hand, and you are at the mercy of the top six cards of your library. Any lands from among them are useless and will remain exiled.

So what's up? As you know the spoilers of Streets Of New Capenna has started and the first cards from Commander: Streets of New Capenna are also known. But sometimes, and nowadays more often than not, some cards are leaked before they are officially spoiled. This is sort-of what happened here, but not exactly. People quickly jump on the band wagon to buy out a card and try to make a few bucks. This card was not officially spoiled yet, but was rather found on images on the backs of the commander decks. So while it is not exactly a leak, it wasn't officially spoiled yet. So because of that I will not show the card in the article, because some people don't want to know until the official spoiling. I will however link the card, mention the name, and discuss the abilities in the next paragraph. So if you don't want to know, skip it.

SPOILER ALERT: I AM NOW GOING TO DISCUSS THE NOT OFFICIALLY SPOILED CARD. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW I SUGGEST YOU SKIP TO THE NEXT WINNER

The card that was found on the back of the commander set of Commander: Streets of New Capenna is called The Beamtown Bullies and is an new Jund Legendary Creature with vigilance and haste. It comes with the following ability:

T: Target opponent whose turn it is puts target nonlegendary creature card from your graveyard onto the battlefield under their control. It gains haste. Goad it. At the beginning of the next end step, exile it.

So when you tap it, you are forcing your opponent to reanimate a nonlegendary creature from your own graveyard. That creature gains haste and its goaded. Goad is a keyword that forces a creature to attack a player other than you (if it can). So you can probably see the interaction here with Hellcarver Demon: you force your opponent to reanimate it, you force your opponent to attack a different player, and when it deals combat damage the player who then controls the demon has to sacrifice everything. And because of the Beamtown Bullies' ability, at the end of the turn Hellcarver Demon will be exiled.

This basically works with more creatures that have a negative ability and we do see creatures like Leveler, Tempting Wurm, Bronze Bombshell, Eater of Days, and Boldwyr Heavyweights move up as well. From these cards we can also find a few in this week's interests:

Hellcarver Demon
Boldwyr Heavyweights
Eater of Days
Leveler
Tempting Wurm
Leveler

#3 Planebound Accomplice $3.99 (+191%)

Planebound Accomplice

The Sneak Attack for Planeswalkers! In my opinion it was just a matter of time before this card would be noticed and be good. Being able to flash in a planeswalker for only would become good at some point. The reason for it going up is the printing of Vivien on the Hunt in Streets Of New Capenna and can win you the game on the spot with a combo. How does this combo work?

  1. Make sure you have Planebound Accomplice on the battlefield.
  2. Sneak in Vivien on the Hunt.
  3. Use the +2 ability to sacrifice a creature and search your library for a creature card with mana value equal to 1 plus the sacrificed creature's mana value. In this case you sacrifice the Accomplice, so you search your library for Felidar Guardian.
  4. Felidar Guardian comes into play. Flicker Vivien on the Hunt, meaning you can use her ability a second time.
  5. Sacrifice Felidar Guardian to Vivien's +2 and find Karmic Guide. Return Felidar Guardian and flicker Vivien again.
  6. Sacrifice Felidar Guardian to Vivien's +2 and find Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker.
  7. Copy Karmic Guide with Kiki, and return Felidar Guardian to the battlefield. Flicker Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker.
  8. Make a bazillion Felidar Guardians with Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker by copying it a bazillion times with Kiki and flickering Kiki.
  9. Attack with your bazillion hasty Felidar Guardians

The Felidar Guardian and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker combo is not new and has been done before. Also the combo with Saheeli Rai and Felidar Guardian is already well known.

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
Karmic Guide
Felidar Guardian
Planebound Accomplice
Vivien on the Hunt

#4 Devoted Druid $10.80 (+254%)

Devoted Druid

I don't think Devoted Druid is new to anyone who knows a bit about combos. It already has infinite combo's with cards like Vizier of Remedies, Quillspike, Swift Reconfiguration (Extended Art), and One with the Stars for example. And these are only same two-card combo instance where Devoted Druid goes infinite one way or another. There are plenty more three-card combos with this Elf involved.

However this week we can add another two-card combo to the list that can generate infinite mana. This combo comes with the printing of Luxior, Giada's Gift that is printed in Streets Of New Capenna. When you equip this weapon to Devoted Druid you can create infinite mana since you can keep adding -1/-1 counters on the Elf indefinitely while the equipment is attached to it and thus generating infinite mana. So what do we do with infinite mana? Probably we can just win with some other card involved (basically making it a three-card win combo). Or maybe you don't need the mana and just use Viridian Longbow to ping your opponents to death.

The up side of this combo above most others is that you don't need an additional color to pull this off. A colorless equipment slots right in any deck that already plays Devoted Druid.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Breathkeeper Seraph $1.25 - Moving up!
Breathkeeper Seraph

Breathkeeper Seraph has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has bottomed for a bit but is now starting an uptrend.
