Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Leyline Dowser $6.50 (+1082%)

This winner is a rare from Commander: Outlaws of Thunder Junction and was a card I didn't necessarily expected to see on the Interests list. The reason for the spike seems to come from Legacy interest. Now for the people who may have missed it, last Monday was a Banned & Restricted announcement where all sticker cards are now banned from Legacy and Vintage. So the only deck in the Legacy format that was hit were decks running _____ Goblin. And while a logical conclusion may be that after a ban another card shoots up, that doesn't seem to be the case here.

Leyline Dowser is a two-mana artifact. Its main ability lets you pay , tap it, and then mill a card. If an instant or sorcery was milled this way, you get to put it into your hand. Now what kind of deck plays a lot of instant and sorceries in Legacy? Delver decks. It seems like people have been experimenting with this card in Izzet Delver decks for good reason.

Back in March Expressive Iteration was banned in Legacy, and was one of the most important card advantage tools in Izzet Delver to make sure they could find the cards they needed. The reason for the ban wasn't to get rid of these decks, but to simply put them down a little bit. But people have been speculating that Leyline Dowser can fill that spot. If we look at the decklist above, we see it plays 24 instants and sorceries, meaning that when you activate it blind, there's a very good chance to hit one. Also, once you've resolved a Brainstorm or Ponder you may know what card is on top. You also get to look at your top card with the Delver trigger, which is another way to know whether you'll hit an instant or sorcery.

But even then activating this blind and not hitting is not the worst thing. This deck plays creatures like Dragon's Rage Channeler and Murktide Regent who love to have cards in the graveyard. We still have to see whether Leyline Dowser is good enough to stay in the format, but it seems like a pretty good fit.

#2 Magical Hack $8.99 (+504%)

This is a follow-up spike from a card that we saw going up last week! We talked about Dandân moving up because of its own fringe format. "Forgetful Fish" is an 80-card, two-player format where both players play off the same deck and share the same graveyard. Other than that, the rest of the game is played with typical Magic rules: take your opponent from 20 to zero or deck them. All you need to play is the deck, and dice to keep track of life totals.

The reason last week mainly seemed to be that some renewed interest came onto it by a video from Tolarian Community College that was all about this format. For this format there isn't just one deck, you can basically build any kind of deck you like as long as it revolves around Dandân. In the deck used in The Professor's video there are two copies of Magical Hack. It seems like the inclusion of these cards in the decklist have led to the price to shoot up and people seem eager to build this exact list.

And it seems that for the same reason we see Narset's Reversal and Crystal Spray appear in the Interests as well.

#3 Hostile Investigator $15.08 (+192%)

This card is from the Outlaws of Thunder Junction: The Big Score subset, which means that there's a far lower supply of it than the main set. A low supply means it's easier to let a card move up. When we quickly glance over the card, we can tell it fits well in a discard strategy. When it enters the battlefield an opponent has to discard a card, but when a player discards a card you get the Investigate, and thus get a Clue token.

There are currently two decks in which Hostile Investigator sees play. One of them is Mono-Black Discard in Pioneer, and the other one is Golgari Midrange in Standard. And while they both seem like good decks, the Standard deck seems to be the one mainly driving the price.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Proft's Eidetic Memory $2.42 - Moving up!

Proft's Eidetic Memory has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.

Karn Liberated $8.00 - Moving down

Lonis, Genetics Expert $6.30 - Slowly moving down
