Onto the Weekly Winners!
#1 Wish $9.03 (+510%)
Did you know that "wish" effects are popular? This particular card, and also this effect, get their name from the "Wish" cycle from Judgment, of which Burning Wish is the most well-known. They all have something in common: you get to find a card (sometimes with a particular card type) you own from outside the game and put it into your hand or play it. Usually, in tournament formats, it means you get to grab a card from your sideboard rather than your entire Magic collection.
The reason Wish spiked this past week is something we also discussed last week. Back then it was Pyretic Ritual that shot up, and Wish is appearing in the exact same deck. Since the release of Modern Horizons 3, the artifact Ruby Medallion has become Modern legal. This opened the door to a new archetype called Ruby Storm being played in the format. People have been flocking to get their Rituals in, but now it seems there's also a run on Wish, which has also been adopted into the deck.
Unlike the Wish cycle from Judgment, Wish can get any card from your sideboard, but you do have to play it immediately rather than putting it into your hand. But if you're able to generate sufficient mana, that shouldn't be a problem. So you can either find the card that makes your opponent's life a lot harder, like Blood Moon, or find a card that enables your combo, like Past in Flames. Or maybe a card that immediately finishes off your opponent, like a Grapeshot.
For the exact same reason we see another card high up on the Interests, and that card is Desperate Ritual. Another ritual to churn out more mana, build storm, and kill your opponent.

If you ever wonder how you can make Magic more fun and find a lot of friends, there are definitely some cards that people enjoy seeing across the table any time. Trinisphere generally isn't one of these cards. This artifact, originally printed in Darksteel, makes all spells cost at least three mana. Want to play that Ponder? Sure, pay . Want to cast Force of Will for it's alternative cost? Pitch a blue card and pay . Are you having fun yet?
Trinisphere is mostly a sideboard card, but can also be found in Legacy Prison mainboards where the goal is to shut down whatever your opponent is doing early on by making sure they can't play Magic. And while they're locked out of the game, you'll try to beat them to death with cards like Goblin Rabblemaster. As you can see, Trinisphere definitely isn't some niche card that nobody has heard of. It's a great card to have in your sideboard against decks that want to play a lot of cheap spells. The effect is symmetrical, but if your deck is already mostly playing spells with mana value three or higher anyway, it's easy to break the symmetry. For example, Tron decks usually play this card in the sideboard because, while it shuts down your opponent's strategy, it barely affects you.
With the release of Modern Horizons 3 we welcomed a lot more Eldrazi cards into the game, and also into Modern. This has led to new builds of Tron that revolve around Eldrazi and card prices affected by it. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn, for example, is played as a four-of in these decks.

This rare from Magic 2012 (M12) only has a single print and has a relatively low supply. It's a Lord of Illusions, giving them both +1/+1 and hexproof. The second ability is especially interesting. We used to have an ability called Skulking that was found on black creatures like Skulking Ghost, but is now more known as the "Illusion Ability". This is a triggered effect found on Illusion spells where you have to sacrifice the creature when it becomes the target of a spell. By giving these Illusion hexproof, you are mitigating this drawback.
But this isn't new. Lord of the Unreal has existed since July 2011, and Illusions also already were a creature type. But what is new is the printing of Omo, Queen of Vesuva. Omo isn't an Illusion, but a Shapeshifter that can put "everything counters" on permanents. When one of these counters is placed on a creature, it will become all creature types, meaning it will also become an Illusion.

Cheap Pickups
Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.
Struggle for Project Purity has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.
