We see some cards move from . Since the set is out for some time now, the metagame is slowly being solved and some cards seem more popular than others in various builds. But this week we will also discuss a card from the reserved list.

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight!

Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Reddit.

#1 $19.69 (+920%)

I am a bit on the fence about this one. It has seen an enormous spike, and thus maybe should be addressed. But one of the more important characteristics of this card is that it is on the reserved list. The past few weeks we have seen multiple cards on the reserved list go up, and more notably, usually the cheaper ones. They are easy to buy out, driving up the price, and then quickly relisted to try to sell them again for a profit.

To be honest I am not totally sure about why this card was targeted for a buyout, but we can try to get a sense of why this card. The last week we have gotten some more insight around the upcoming set Streets of New Capenna. The set takes place in the metropolis of New Capenna, a city that has both grit and glamour. It is a place built by angels, but now ruled by five demon crime families battling for supremacy. One of these families is the Esper aligned Obscura family whom are talented wizards and mystics who use their power to deceive and blackmail, using distractions, illusions, and hidden mechanisms.

So why am I bringing this up? is an esper wizard that aligns perfectly with the theme around the Obscura family. Since each family will also get its own commander theme deck, it means a deck will come out that will likely revolve around wizards in these colors. This could have led to speculation around and thus being targeted for a buyout.

Wandering Mage
Alliances

#2 $6.00 (+137%)

It seems like was one of those undervalued cards when it was spoiled. It started preselling around $5, went down to about $2.50 and has now steadily gone up to $6. Not really a surprise, in hindsight, since it has found a place in a lot of different Standard builds like Azorius Control, White Weenie, Esper Control, Orzhov builds amongst others.

But we even see it come up in Modern and Legacy builds. In Modern the card is being played, for example, in 4 color Omnath, Orzhov decks, and Boros Hammer. We see showing up in Pioneer Azorius Control and Esper Greasefang. But also in Legacy the card is being tried in 4 color Zenith Yorion decks. was also featured in a Modern Bant Control deck by aspiringspike as well that could have drawn some more attention to the card.

It's not strange that this card is making waves across formats because it is an instant with a high impact since it can clean up several kind of threats: artifacts, enchantments, and creatures. That being able to do on instant speed plus being able to exile cards to make it cheaper when really necessary makes this card very versatile. And of course because of this we also see it show up in Commander builds that can support it. Versatility usually is quite important in these decks.

#3 $28.00 (+87%)

Wait, is white actually... good?! Right! So now that we have that corny prejudice out of the way, lets talk a bit about . The card is under pretty much the same effect as . Being a planeswalker that can be flashed in is very powerful, and being able to activate one of the abilities on instant speed when it comes into play also is amazing. Again it is important to note the versatility of the card, because you can either create a blocker, make an existing blocker stronger, or just exile a tapped (attacking?) creature and gain 2 life in the process.

Then the next turn, after being flashed in, you can active one of the abilities again and now the opponent also has to try to deal with a planeswalker. is showing up in several Standard decks, and pretty much the same ones as is making an appearance in. But also here we see the emperor show up in Modern, Pioneer and Standard.

This planeswalker was also mentioned on The Command Zone last week which could also have an impact on the price.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

$2.19 - Slowly trending up!

has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has bottomed for a bit but is now starting a continuous uptrend. This especially is true for the Extended Art version. Keep in mind that life gain is always a popular archetype to build a deck around and is an easy include for these decks. It's amazing how the price of regular version is so close to the extended art one and even the Innistrad Double Feature version of .
