Magic: The Gathering has long been a pillar in the world of trading card games. It has captured the hearts of gamers and collectors alike with its intricate gameplay, unique card designs, and intricate lore. At the center of it all is one card that stands above the rest: Black Lotus.

Black Lotus has often been referred to as the "holy grail" of Magic: The Gathering. This is because of its rarity, power, and history. Released in 1993 as part of Magic's Alpha Edition set, Black Lotus has become one of the most sought-after cards in the entire world. The card up for auction has been graded by Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA) and received the highest possible grade, Gem Mint 10. This particular card is even more special because its grading case has been signed by the card's original artist, the late Christopher Rush.

Black Lotus

Black Lotus has a very powerful ability. When activated, it adds three mana of any color to your pool. This may seem like a small addition, but it can give a player a major advantage, allowing them to cast powerful spells quickly. It's especially prized by players for its ability to help win games, but it's also prized by collectors for its historical significance and its role in shaping the trading card game industry.

The current online auction for the Gem Mint 10 Alpha edition Black Lotus, signed by Christopher Rush on its grading case, is generating a lot of buzz. This particular card is so valuable that a previous Black Lotus, also signed by Rush, sold for $511,100 in 2021. But that's not all. There are also 12 other Gem Mint 10 Alpha edition cards up for auction, including Ancestral Recall, Birds of Paradise, Mox Emerald, Mox Pearl, Mox Ruby, Savannah Lions, Braingeyser, Forcefield, Clockwork Beast, Nightmare, Armageddon, and Mahamoti Djinn. These cards are also highly sought-after by collectors and are in pristine condition.

Peter Petipas, Manager of trading card games at PWCC Marketplace, the company that is conducting the auction, said, "This is considered to be the greatest Magic: The Gathering card of all time and is arguably the most important issue in the history of trading card games." He also added, "The fact that this copy is signed on the case by the legendary Christopher Rush makes it all the more special." This auction is a sign of where the market for Magic cards is heading, especially after limited quantities of Black Lotus reprints were sold in the 30th Anniversary Edition packs.

In conclusion, Black Lotus is a rare and highly coveted treasure in the world of trading card games. Its historical significance and powerful ability have made it a favorite among collectors and players alike. The current online auction for the Gem Mint 10 Alpha edition Black Lotus, signed by Christopher Rush on its grading case, is an exciting event for Magic fans and collectors. At time of writing, the current bid sits at a "meagre" $220,000. Whether it sells for another record-breaking price or not, Black Lotus will always be a symbol of the magic and wonder that trading card games bring to our lives. The cards are up for auction until March 16th.

Yearly Winners 2022: Top Winners and Losers (Part 1)

2022 has been a busy year for Magic and especially the collectors. The market was flooded by Wizards of the Coast with new product. There have been, among others, four main sets, each having their own commander product, several Universes Beyond sets, Dominaria Remastered, Unfinity, and 70 Secret Lairs. Plenty of new cards hit the market. According to some calculations, almost 15% of all card variations were printed in 2022, and 25% of all commanders in existence were printed this year. Plenty of stuff to look back on!
