Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Seance Board $8.61 (+618%)

This spike is a rather interesting one. Seance Board is a newer rare from the Commander: Duskmourn: House of Horror set. This artifact will get a soul counter at each end step if a creature died that turn. You can tap it for an X amount of mana where X is the number of soul counters on it. But there's a restriction that you can only spend that mana on Demons, Spirits, and instants and sorceries.

So when reading the card, you'd immediately assume that it's a card you'd generally see in decks that revolve around Demons and Spirits, and people therefore kind of skipped past the card. While the Demon and Spirit archetype is far from a niche, it didn't appeal to the bigger crowd. It feels like it was easy to read over the "instant" and "sorcery" parts, meaning this mana rock may also work very well in spellslinger decks.

Just a few days ago it was selling for about a dollar, but that's now changed. While the card was already selling well, it seems like it was called out by a prominent member in the finance community, putting the card on more people's radars. It's a bit unclear whether it's just being bought out by speculators, or also people trying to get their copies for their decks.

#2 Enduring Innocence $10.07 (+131%)

In Duskmourn we got the "Enduring" enchantment creature cycle, of which Enduring Innocence is the white one. These creatures will come back as enchantments when they die, meaning that if you want to get rid of an opposing one, you either have to exile it from the battlefield, remove it from the graveyard before it can get back, or use two removal spells. Most of the spells in this cycle are pretty strong and are expected to find their way into either Commander decks or constructed formats like Standard, Modern, or Pioneer.

Enduring Innocence is already being heavily played in several Standard decks, of which most of them revolve around creating tokens, but it recently also found a spot in Selesnya Collected Company (Borderless) decks in Pioneer. It also made a strong showing in Pioneer decks during the Regional Championship in Washington D.C. that happened recently. These decks are full of creatures with power two or less, thus triggering this shiny Sheep often.

Besides these formats, we also see it appear a lot in Commander. As we discussed earlier, these creatures come back as enchantments when they die, and thus have a natural "protection" from removal effects. It's already found its way into decks around Duskmourn commanders like The Jolly Balloon Man and Arabella, Abandoned Doll, as well as decks around Delney, Streetwise Lookout or Zinnia, Valley's Voice that already want to play low-power creatures.

#3 Artist's Talent $3.70 (+68%)

We've talked about the Talent cycle from Bloomburrow before, just not the red one. Scavenger's Talent, Fortune Teller's Talent, and Caretaker's Talent came up several weeks ago. These talents are rare Class enchantments representing jobs, and can be leveled up for extra abilities.

Artist's Talent only costs two mana and lets you loot a card whenever you cast a noncreature spell. When leveled up once, it will also discount your noncreatures spells by and can increase noncombat damage done to your opponents in the last level. We already established with a previous winner that Pioneer is pretty hot right now, and this also seems to be the reason for the spike here. It's turning up in at least two types of decks. The first one is Izzet Phoenix decks that want to use cheap spells to find other ones and toss their Arclight Phoenix in the graveyard. But it will also make Proft's Eidetic Memory a big creature with all the extra draws.

The second deck I've seen Artist's Talent being played in is Lotus Bloom Combo. When leveled up once it will make Pore Over the Pages and Hidden Strings one mana cheaper, making it so you can more easily combo off with just a single Lotus Field on the battlefield. What absolutely didn't help the price is that Kanister showed off this combo recentely on YouTube.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Pest Infestation $4.99 - Moving up!

Pest Infestation has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.

Season of Gathering $5.00 - Moving down

Engineered Explosives $3.99 - Moving down
